Some time ago the Canadian
Lacemakers Gazette reported on their 5 meter club. What a
wonderful idea! After talking about it, we decided to adopt their idea in our
guild. Since most of us cannot devote too much time to our 'little hobby' (as some family
members see it), making even three yards of a lace edging is a wonderful accomplishment.
The HLG-Three-Yards-Club is not just a gimmick, its purpose is to encourage
lacemakers to make more then just a few inches of one pattern. In this way they will get
really good at it. Lacemakers in the 'olden days', when lacemaking was a cottage industry,
would only work one and the same pattern all their lives. That's why their laces were so
beautiful.
